the heart behind HEALING OUT LAO’D
Mental health care that contextualizes the impact of forced migration, intergenerational trauma, identity, and collective healing within Lao and broader Southeast Asian communities.

hello & Sabaidee!
Founded by Rita Phetmixay (she/they), Healing Out Lao’d began as a virtual practice space via podcasting that centered Lao diaspora storytelling, healing and tools for sustainability and has since evolved to support the broader Southeast Asian diaspora through digital media resources, workshops/trainings, 1×1 therapy, in-person retreats and so much more!
For many adult children of refugees and immigrants, survival shaped so much of what was passed down to us including resilience, sacrifice, shame, silence, responsibility, grief, loss, love, and the pressure to keep going even when struggling internally.
Through Healing Out Lao’d, Rita’s mission is to continue evolving and creating conversations and spaces where communities can move beyond survival mode and reconnect to all the versions of ourselves and one another with greater authenticity, compassion, and community care.
“Be the person you needed when you were younger.”
