You're not the only one who feels this way.

Healing can feel especially isolating when you come from a Southeast Asian immigrant/refugee family or community where survival often came before emotional wellbeing.

Maybe you've spent years carrying family expectations, keeping the peace, taking care of everyone else, or minimizing your own needs. Maybe you're beginning to recognize how intergenerational trauma, emotionally immature family dynamics, financial stress, people-pleasing, burnout, and internalized shame have shaped the way you move through the world.

You may understand why these patterns exist AND still not know what to do with everything you're carrying.

The SEA Healing Series exists to shift that.

This is an identity-based support space where Southeast Asians from the diaspora can reflect together and be honest about the parts of healing we don't always get to talk about including grief, anger, guilt, exhaustion, resentment, confusion, and desire for something different.

Together, we'll explore how our family histories, cultural experiences, relationships, and survival patterns continue to show up in our lives today while making space for safety, connection, choice, and most importantly, JOYYY!

This group may be a good fit if:

  • You identify as Southeast Asian and are 21 or older.

  • You want to better understand how intergenerational trauma and family survival patterns may be impacting you today.

  • You recognize patterns associated with emotionally immature parenting or complicated family relationships.

  • You experience guilt, difficulty setting boundaries, people-pleasing, overfunctioning, burnout, or putting others' needs before your own.

  • You want to better understand your relationship with money and begin healing from negative experiences of financial trauma.

  • You want to explore and heal internalized shame shaped by cultural expectations/family/society while also reconnecting with joy, self-acceptance, and your authentic self.

  • You're looking for culturally informed, trauma-aware peer support with other Southeast Asians who may understand a version of what you're navigating.

  • You want a structured space that combines psychoeducation, personal reflection, and meaningful group discussion.

This group may not be a good fit if:

  • You are seeking the series as a replacement for individual psychotherapy or trauma treatment. This is a peer-supported educational and discussion space designed to complement, not replace, individualized mental health care.

  • You are primarily seeking treatment focused on physical or sexual abuse recovery.

  • You are currently experiencing significant self-harm or safety concerns that require more intensive clinical support.

  • You are experiencing an acute mental health crisis or currently need a higher level of care than a support group can provide.

  • You are looking for individualized diagnosis, assessment, or treatment within the group setting.

You don't have to heal alone. There is power in healing alongside people who are committed to understand where you come from.

“I love that we were able to share our journey, allow ourselves to be vulnerable, and support each other despite being strangers on zoom nonetheless.  I feel like I’m coming full circle on my mental health journey and this was the missing piece I needed.  It’s very cathartic to be able to heal within our own community despite inheriting our community trauma.”

“Despite feeling disconnected with my own Lao community, we all want to connect and the barrier that was placed to keep us safe kept us from truly connecting with one another.”

“Thank you so much again Rita. I’m sure this is the most seen a lot of us have felt in a long time.”

“That what I’m going through is not unique and there are other people out there that I can lean and have a conversation about these really difficult topics.”

“Kop jai to Rita for cultivating this space for us Lao folx! You are creating a pathway for future Lao Social Workers in the field and these spaces are treasures for our community!”

“I really appreciated the resources. The encouragement to speak up was really empowering.”

“I love that we were able to cheer our community and participants as they are sharing their vulnerable moments. Our parents couldn't because they didn't know how or were afraid it would make things worse, but because we are truly connected as a community, we can finally encourage and provide a safe space for our vulnerability.”
